Radiologic diagnosis: R/O benign versus malignancy.
Macroscopy: Received 5 alcohol-fixed & 1 air-dried slides.
Microscopy: All received slides were examined & showed moderately cellular smears. Along with monolayer clusters of almost unremarkable thyroid follicular epithelial cells, there are clusters with non-specific atypia mainly as fine chromatin pattern & nuclear overlapping as well as a few nuclear grooves. Many isolated nuclei or mature lymphocytes & modest amount of colloid are also seen in a bloody background.
Interpretation: Thyroid nodule, left lobe, FNA-Cytology:
- Atypia of undetermined significance (Bethesda III).
Comment: Repeat of FNA after appropriate interval is recommended.
